Ohio Independent Living Storytelling Campaign

Sharing the voices of Ohio’s Independent Living movement

In 2026, the Ohio Statewide Independent Living Council (OSILC) partnered with Shedd Creative LLC to produce a statewide Independent Living awareness campaign.

The project brought together perspectives from across Ohio’s Centers for Independent Living and OSILC to share personal experiences, highlight the difference Independent Living services can make, and raise awareness of barriers that still exist.
The stories explore themes including consumer choice, community living, self-advocacy, peer support, accessible housing, personal assistance, and disability rights.

A statewide resource for education and advocacy.

The videos were developed to give OSILC and Ohio’s Centers for Independent Living a shared collection of stories that can be used for public education, outreach, advocacy, and communicating the impact of Independent Living services.

  • Public Education

Introduce more people to Independent Living philosophy and the work of CILs.

  • Community Outreach

Share relatable stories with people who may not know these services are available.

  • Advocacy & Policy

Illustrate how policies and community barriers affect people’s ability to live independently.

  • Communicating Impact

Help audiences understand the human experiences behind data and service outcomes.
