Council Members

The Ohio SILC Council has 19 members. The Governor appoints these members from all over Ohio. The members have different disabilities. This helps us react to the needs and concerns of Ohio’s 1.6 million+ people with disabilities. Over half of our members must be people who have disabilities.

Committees

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee handles pressing issues between Council Meetings. They oversee the administrative operations of the SILC.  They act as the personnel committee. At least once a year, they closely examine the SILC rules (bylaws) and other Board policies.

Education and Outreach Committee

The Education and Outreach Committee shares information about Independent Living with people with disabilities and the public. The Committee will also find and invite new people to join SILC and get people with disabilities interested in becoming SILC members.

Community Advancement and Advocacy Committee

The Community Advancement and Advocacy Committee looks at what the disability community requires. They find the barriers that make living in the community hard. They work with the IL Network to fix those problems. The committee also watches what happens with new rules and laws. They work to change things to make the SILC and Independent Living goals happen.

State Plan for Independent Living Committee

The State Plan for Independent Living Committee must check on the goals of the State Plan for Independent Living regularly. This means they will work with the IL Network to gather facts, follow how things are going, and fix problems. The committee will tell the Council about any ideas for changes to the plan.
