Introducing the Self-Direction Advisory Council and Call for Nominations

Hello,

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) is pleased to announce the launch of the first Self-Direction Advisory Council! We are reaching out to let you know more about this exciting new development and to ask for nominations to the Self-Direction Advisory Council.

About the ODM Self-Direction Advisory Council

The Self-Direction Advisory Council will focus on growing and improving the self-direction program across waivers in Ohio. Topics may include creating consistency in terminology and discussing existing and future services. ODM hopes to build diverse membership on the Self-Direction Advisory Council, with a particular focus on advocacy organizations and people with lived experience.

We have developed specific targets for each type of member we are seeking. They’re shown in the following table.

The full Advisory Council will meet virtually every three months, starting in February. These meetings will be supported by smaller group meetings on specific topics. ODM will continue to meet with the Self-Direction Workgroup to work on the Ohio Home Care and MyCare waivers.

How to Nominate

Do you know someone who can contribute to the Self-Direction Advisory Council? Are you interested in listening in on Self-Direction Advisory Council meetings, but not contributing as an active member?

To express interest in participating or to nominate yourself or another person with expertise and passion for self-directed services please fill out and submit the ODM Self-Direction Advisory Council Interest and Nomination Form by 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, January 21.

Council Member Responsibilities

Participation in the Self-Direction Advisory Council is a limited term appointment only. Those chosen to participate in the Self-Direction Advisory Council will be notified of their acceptance via email no later than Tuesday, January 28. Nominees not accepted to the Self-Direction Advisory Council will also be notified via email. ODM will provide further information on how to participate on a listen-only basis.

We hope that you consider recommending yourself or someone you know for the Self-Direction Advisory Council. Your response can have a big impact on the lives of those we serve.

Best regards,

The Ohio Department of Medicaid
